My job as a therapist is to help facilitate your self analysis, help you identify issues, listen and validate your perceptions, help you to see what your options, alternatives and goals are and help provide an objective view of your situation.
In couples counseling, my role is to facilitate better communication between you so that you will understand your own and your partner's thoughts and feelings more completely. We are looking for understanding and solutions not blame. We can explore your beliefs and expectations and your compatibility in values and goals. We look for ways to increase your sense of friendship and fun. Knowledge about gender differences can be helpful. There are certain principles for good relationships that can be learned. The focus is on communication, education and practice of new behaviors.
The main requirements for successful therapy are that you want to improve your life, are wiling to take the time required to learn new behaviors and are willing to make the effort to put them into practice. I can tell you that change is possible. Our goal in working together is to achieve mores happiness and peace of mind.
