2 fully beveled custom leaded glass windows in production; now to be cemented. Stay tuned for installation coming soon. It will be beautiful.
A nice, rather large interior transom, installed today off of Monroe Drive in downtown Atlanta. Approximately 20" × 51"
I sometimes repair broken lamp shades in addition to windows. Usually, finding the same type of glass to replace the broken pieces is 1/4 of the battle, but the customer was able to contact the manufacturer and they supplied him with the same type of replacement glass. The other 3/4 of the battle was me replacing the 5 broken pieces.
A custom leaded glass bathroom window installed today way down in Locust Grove, GA. The design was based on a design the customer already had in their front door. As you can see visually the window appears different depending upon where you stand and what is located outside behind the window, which in this case is a big tree.
A bit of an unusual job today: replacing 12 broken panes of restoration (hand rolled) glass on this house. Not what I usually do, but hey, it's a job.
A custom leaded glass door panel, installed today in Grayson, GA. The customer elected to have clear tempered glass installed on the inside, up against the glass for support and protection from breakage from the inside. 90% of the repairs that I do to doors around the Atlanta area are caused by damage to the window coming from the inside of the house. This will protect that from ever happening....and it's invisible!
2 beautiful fully beveled custom leaded glass windows, installed today in a newly being built home in Marietta. These are deeply recessed windows within a very unique shelving space upon a wall. At my recommendation, 1/4" tempered glass was installed up against these windows from the inside for protection and support. As always, it is invisible.
A custom leaded glass elliptical arch interior window, installed today in Lawrenceville Ga, of all places! I can't explain how difficult this job was with it being an elliptical, but I got it done. The customer was overjoyed.
I removed this badly damaged, very large (55" X 60") bathroom window to repair and reinstall correctly. The window had fallen off of the ledge on which it was sitting due to improper installation with silicone around the edges being the only thing holding it in place. I rebuilt it to its proper form, including replacing a broken piece, and reinstalled it properly with wood trim holding it in place all the way around. Big thanks to my brother, Howard, for helping me transport it and reinstall as it was too large to handle myself.
Custom leaded glass sidelights and transom, designed to compliment the pre-existing leaded glass in the front door. Installed yesterday in Powder Springs, GA
Another custom leaded glass bathroom window installed today in Buford GA. Simple seems to be what everyone is going for in bathroom Windows these days. Who am I to argue?
I always install all of the bathroom windows I create, except in this case, this one was purchased by a guy from Charlotte NC and he drove down here to pick it up and installed it himself. From the look of it, though it is dark outside, he did a good job.
Merry Christmas / Happy Hanukkah to all!
Another simple yet elegant custom leaded glass bathroom window, installed this morning in Bethlehem GA.
I had the pleasure of restoring this 3/8" thick glass panel that was fully custom beveled locally back in 1983; reinstalled today in Dunwoody, GA. 99% of bevels are 1/4" thick, which makes this one an extreme rarity, and very heavy. It had bowed outward about 6", and two of the bevels had popped out and broken, among other issues. Back in 1983, this may have cost about $3K to create. In today's market, it's probably about $10K. The owner was thrilled with the work & that it was saved.
The first of three very large and long multi-colored and multi-textured transoms is cut out and ready to build. These transoms will be installed inside the dining room in downtown Roswell's newest restaurant in one of its oldest buildings, called A-Street. Of course, transoms face in the horizontal position and the glass will look much different installed with lighting behind the glass, but you get the general idea. Stay tuned.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
These windows I created reside in a rental cabin in the North GA mountains.
4 custom leaded glass windows installed today in a new home construction in Dacula Georgia. These windows were designed to complement the existing leaded glass door panels already in place.
The three long multi-colored transoms for the restaurant in Roswell have all been built but yet to be cemented. Cement (called "mud" in the business) is like a grout with a consistency of mud that is spread over each of the windows and is brushed up underneath the edges of the lead. It bonds the glass to the lead and also turns all of the lead color black. This will be by far the most multi-colorful job I have ever done.
Additional pictures of the A-Street restaurant transoms in Roswell, GA. I took some shots of them vertically and outdoors before installing to show more of the true colors with natural light.
Here are the long multi-colored transoms installed in A-Street restaurant. Notice the one transom that I built around the pipe. The owner was very happy.
1 of two very old cabinet panels that I finished restoring today. These are well over 100 years old and were caving in and beginning to fall apart and had about 10 broken pieces between the two of them. I have suggested to the owner to somehow backlight the inside of the cabinet to enjoy these fully. The star is a very dark amber color; not black as it appears in the picture.
A customer came to me with three very old stained glass windows that probably came out of a church somewhere that were badly damaged. One of them was beyond repair so I cannibalized it and took pieces from it to replace about 15 broken pieces in these two windows. The customer backlit them and hung them on the wall. For reference, these windows are about as tall as I am.
