2020 might seem like it’s lasted forever, but these trees know a thing or two about real longevity. Here are four trees that have stood the test of time—literally. Swipe left to take a trip back 80,000 years. (Note that all ages are estimates.)
1️⃣ 1️,600 years old—El Árbol del Tule, Santa María del Tule, Mexico. It may not be the tallest tree in the world, but it is the stoutest, with a circumference of about 137 feet.
2️⃣ 3,200 years old—The President, Sequoia National Park, California. Named for our 29th president, Warren G. Harding, this sequoia is the third largest tree in the world by volume and the oldest known living sequoia.
3️⃣9,550 years old—Old Tjikko, Fulufjallet Mountain, Sweden. Though the current trunk is estimated to be only a few hundred years old, the root system of this tree dates back almost to the last glacial period.
4️⃣80,000 years old—Pando, Fishlake National Forest, Utah. Don’t miss the forest for the trees—or maybe the trees for the forest. Each tree in this grove is actually just a "stem" of one massive root system.

Along the Oregon coast, a few hours from Portland, is a peculiar chasm that appears to swallow the incoming waves into another dimension. Thor’s Well, also known as the "drainpipe of the Pacific" may look like a bottomless pit, but is only about 20 feet deep.

Bison were introduced to the greater Grand Canyon region in the early 1900s as part of a ranching experiment to crossbreed bison and cattle. (It failed.) There are many beautiful bridges, but perhaps the most iconic is the Golden Gate. Stretching 1.7 miles from the city of San Francisco north to Marin County, it has boldly delivered commuters and welcomed ships since 1937.
