Aaron Shelby April 8 at 2:13 AM · Very proud of the fact that Allstate was the first company to make this decision. Having worked for another large competitor for many years I can tell you that Allstate is definitely a customer focused company in an industry where many companies are only focused on themselves. Not trying to imply the company is perfect but rather very focused on doing right by the customer. The reason the company made the decision to return $600 million back to their policyholders is so to the fact that Allstate’s rates, as is our competitors, is based largely on the projected amount of claims that is expected in the near future. With traveling way down due to CORVID-19 the company was collecting much more in premium with much less than expected going out in claims. Since this premium was collected from the policyholders Allstate only felt it the ethical thing to do by returning it to our customers. We will have to see which other insurance companies decide to follow in Allstate’s example but I certainly hope they do seeing as how they like Allstate are benefiting from the decrease in claims. Let’s hope they do the right thing!
