A. Charles Rabinowitz, MD, FACC is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology, and practices with South Texas Cardiovascular Consultants.
Dr. Rabinowitz was inspired to become a doctor by his father, an obstetrician/gynecologist who practiced medicine for 30 years. Dr. Rabinowitz is still driven by his deep commitment to his patients. "I saw the type of relationships my father had with his patients, and I kept that in mind during my formative years in medicine. And today, I continue that approach by focusing on my patient as person—not an organ system," says Dr. Rabinowitz.
As one of the first three cardiologists in San Antonio to be trained in angioplasty, Dr. Rabinowitz has witnessed recent advances in technology with great appreciation and is actively involved in clinical trials to investigate some of these new technologies. These advances help Dr. Rabinowitz treat patients not only with blocked coronary arteries, but also those with poor circulation to the arteries of the legs, kidneys, carotids and other peripheral sites. He has been trained in the very latest interventional techniques, including vascular stenting of legs, arms, kidneys, and carotids, laser and rotational atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound, intracardiac ultrasound, and percutaneous repair of patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects.
Dr. Rabinowitz has been in practice and has served as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center since 1981. Dr. Rabinowitz has served as chief of cardiology at St. Luke's and San Antonio Regional hospitals, chief of staff at St. Luke's, and director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Methodist. He has also served as chairman of the board for Methodist Texsan Hospital, a campus of Methodist Hospital.
