About

Altoona Area's Oldest Traditional Martial Arts Facility, established 1979 Pennsylvania's Only Jin Pal Hapkido Federation and Yamasaki Academy Affiliate Grandmaster Jin Pal Kim possesses a martial arts resume that would be admired by even the most accomplished of martial arts masters. He began his training in 1953, at the age of twelve, in Taegu, Korea. His initial training was in Tae Kwon Do, which was known as Karate during this period. He trained with Master Koo, under whom he attained his Black Belt. He also had the opportunity to train in the arts of Kendo and Judo. However, when he moved to Seoul, Korea, is when he honed his skills under the tutelage of Grand Master Ji Han Jae, the modern day founder of Hapkido.

Grand Master Kim's natural ability and dedication allowed him to reach the rank of Ninth Degree Black Belt under Grand Master Jae. His next graduation from the military police academy selected to instruct at the Blue House, the Korean equal to the White House, where he trained all the presidential body guards. He became one of a select group of body guards for Korean President Park. In 1965 he was assigned to the Military Special Investigations Divisions in Viet Nam which enabled him to introduce Hapkido to the Vietnamese. Later, in 1970, after his release from the military, Grand Master Kim was granted permission to instruct Hapkido in Hong Kong. He opened a successful Do-jang and was the first to introduce Hapkido in Hong Kong. His reputation spread throughout Hong Kong and he was approached by many actors requesting instruction in the ways of Hapkido, including Jackie Chan, Carter Wong, Angela Mao, and Samu Hung. After appearing on Hong Kong television, he was signed to a motion picture corporation which produced eight martial arts films with Jin Pal Kim as the lead actor. Good evening everyone. I wanted to let you know with the expected increase in the number of viral cases. We will be doing the following things to keep us all healthy: We will be cleaning equipment after classes, ramping up general cleaning of the dojang, refraining from holding hands and high fives, and anything else we can think of that will keep all of you safe. We ask if you are ill to please stay home. Right now we do not have plans to cancel classes but the situation could change. The constant news of the virus is anxiety provoking for children and adults. Exercise such as martial arts is a great outlet to get rid of this in a healthy way. Exercise boosts metabolism and lets be honest punching and kicking bags is fun. Hand sanitizer is in short supply but we have lots of soap and water we can utilize. Stay healthy and if you choose not to bring your child or yourself to class we understand. Please keep us informed if you will not be attending class. Together we are stronger. Tang Soo.

Jason Silverman December 7, 2020 at 9:55 PM 路 Dear Parents, It's most certainly a crazy time right now. Fear, uncertainty and a definite lack of clarity seem to be placing a haze over almost everything at the moment, right? Covid has changed EVERYTHING. Not sure if you've taken a moment to think about your kids' coaches, teachers and instructors lately. While most are putting up a pretty damn good front, I want to share some brutal honesty with you. Through a few of my companies, I work directly with owners, managers and coaches in the gymnastics, martial arts, dance, cheer, and music industries...and I've gotta tell ya... They're on the ropes. Each and every day I get another notification about more schools/gyms/academies that have closed for good. They are cleaning and sanitizing and temperature taking and scrubbing and reducing class sizes and then cleaning again... You need not be Albert Einstein to understand that the numbers simply don't add up. You can't teach less members, while employing more people and buying even more sanitizing product with the constant threat of being shut down...and expect to thrive. Here's my ask to you: If your kiddo's school, gym, studio, whatever has helped to make a positive impact on their lives... If your kiddo's school, gym, studio, whatever serves as a "home away from home"... If your kiddo's school, gym, studio, whatever bends over backwards to help them succeed... I implore...no...I BEG you to help them survive as well. -- Keep your kiddos enrolled. -- If only virtual classes are offered...take them and participate. -- Support the business however you can (buy some retail, buy some gift certificates, share their social media posts, send them a social proof video, speak kindly about them online) -- Check in on them (I promise you that not nearly enough people do this.) -- Realize and understand that nobody wants life to return back to a normal normal than they do. -- Remember, very few people open a gymnastics club, dance studio, martial arts academy, cheer gym, music school, whatever...with the express goal of becoming a gazillionaire. They do it because they're passionate about helping YOUR KIDS to succeed. Keep in mind, if we want all of these places to be here "when covid is done and gone," we've gotta help that happen. May I ask that YOU are a part of the solution? I thank you for your help in advance. Let's keep making this world a better place, shall we?
