As the cultural hub of this region, the Acadiana Center for the Arts aims to be a place where you can be inspired, be immersed, be enlightened, be connected, and be creative. It is a place where you can just...be.

Be...at the Acadiana Center for the Arts
We are devastated to learn of the passing of Cheryl Larkin Castille, director of the Louisiana Division of the Arts. Cheryl has been a friend, mentor, and engine of positive change for Acadiana in particular, as the past program director of Cité des Arts and the director of tourism for St. Landry Parish. In all her roles she has been a champion of culture, a wellspring of creativity, and a force to be reckoned with. Our only consolation is that Cheryl will live on in the fires of passion that she kindled in innumerable people—passions for life, art, music, culture, and Louisiana. We will miss you, Cheryl.

I'm beyond sad to say Cheryl Larkin Castille passed away this morning. Cheryl had recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Besides being the executive director of the La. Division of the Arts, Cheryl was a friend, confidante, co-worker, coach, football frenemy and so much more. Louisiana has lost one of its biggest cheerleader. I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach.
In partnership with #RedAlertRESTART, tonight the AcA will join over 1000 venues across the country as we light the building red to support the live arts sector which is being impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This effort kicks off a national campaign that urges the federal government to designate funding to help restart the industry. The AcA will be lit red until midnight, along with the Heymann Performing Arts Center! In Lafayette Parish alone, the cultural economy around live events employs almost 15% of the working population—a huge economic impact in our community.

There’s only a little time left to enjoy Russell Whiting sculptures—gathered together for the first time in Russell Whiting: 30 Years. This show closes Saturday, September 12. See these treasures by visiting our AcA during normal business hours, Monday through Saturday. For more information on this exhibition, visit our website at https://bit.ly/AcARussellWhiting.

AcA Visual Art Director, Jaik Faulk, discusses hanging, lighting, shooting, and editing tricks and tips for success. During this discussion, we will also share how to reserve a spot and provide a list of local photographers for those interested in hiring a professional.
The Healthy Artist exhibit offers an "Artists' Documentation Studio" to photograph your artwork. Artists are often required to submit work digitally for grants, exhibitions, engagements, and for public profile pages, so good photography is often the first impression of your work.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of David Guarisco, who passed away of COVID-19 this past Saturday. David was so deeply embedded in the cultural life of Lafayette, as an actor, an insightful audience member, and an always kind and supportive friend. We are devastated by his passing, but we hope that his legacy of kindness and generosity of spirit lives on in in the community that he so loved.
