A blue smurf looking squirrel? Ideas range from it was colored somehow by a person or that it possibly fell inside porta potty water. We bet it was getting into someone's attic and they were relocating them, but thought the same squirrel was coming back and getting into the Attic, so they colored it blue to make it easy to identify. When relocating squirrels, one must take them at least a minimum of one mile away or further or they will find their way back into your attic! Keith Mouis is with Jessica Dawson Mouis. October 25 at 2:20 PM · Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources October 25 at 2:00 PM · “It’s a bat!” The very word elicits an emotional response from most people. Apprehension, nervousness, Count Dracula, and fascination are just a few of the feelings and images we might have when thinking of bats. But bats, like all wildlife in Virginia, are an important natural resource and a valuable asset. This week is #batweek, an annual celebration of the role of bats in nature, and all week we'll be introducing you to some of the 17 species of bats in Virginia. Unfortunately, a number of bat species are declining throughout the world. In Virginia, we have four species (Indiana bat, gray bat, northern long-eared, and Virginia big-eared bat) that are listed as Federally Endangered and three species (little brown, tri-colored, and Rafinesque’s big-eared bat) listed as State Endangered. DWR's Guide to the Bats of Virginia is now online for free to help you identify specific bat species and inform you about their biology. It also covers important issues concerning bat management and conservation. Find it at: https://dwr.virginia.gov/wildlife/bats/

Connie Hiebert February 26 at 1:36 PM · Good Morning. The little possum that came in after falling out of mom is doing good. The mouth is so tiny I have to use the smallest tube available as you can see. We will be doing a class on Possums with Evelyn's Wildlife Refuge in late April. Anyone interested in learning to rehab possums and learning tube feeding. This will be a great class if you are interested in Virginia Opossums. Stay tuned for date and flyer. <3 A wildlife permit is required to attend this class. Continuing Education Credits for attendance.

ACME Animal Control March 7, 2017 at 1:33 PM · Spring is almost here and baby season has begun! This is a video of baby squirrels that were found inside an attic during an inspection. One of the most important things we teach our Wildlife Technicians to do is Always check for babies at the beginning of a job as well as at the end of a job. When found, they are safely removed, then transported to one of our many licensed wildlife rehabilitators. Check out this video and watch until the end for a special offer from our owner, Brian Fiske!
