2021 Acura TLX A-Spec Review: Making the Grade - AutoGuide.com
Today's Tuesday Tech Tip - Windshield washer fluid. This often overlooked but important safety fluid has an important job.
Windshield washer fluid is formulated to remove bugs, dirt, road debris and from that occasional bird dropping from your windshield. When you activate your washer fluid switch, the washer pump sends washer fluid to the windshield. Your wipers easily remove dirt and grime from your windshield, keeping your line of vision clear while you drive.
Many Acura vehicles have a sensor in the washer fluid tank to alert that the level is low but some vehicles do not. When driving in snow or light rain environments, a lot of road debris can accumulate from tires spray. Washer fluid has to work both in freezing and relative hot temperatures to help loosen debris in all kinds of weather that your Acura may be exposed to.
While plain water can be used to fill the windshield washer reservoir, it doesn't have the detergent and anti-freeze additives to keep you safe where ever you may be out on the road.
When your Acura is in for routine maintenance, our factory trained technicians will check/fill all your Acura fluids but if you need some to have on hand, feel free to visit our professional parts department for assistance.
Power, Agility and Style is important for any sports car but so is Safety. The all-new 2021 Acura TLX earns the highest safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. 👍

Tuesday Tech Tip - unlike tires that are obvious when replacement is necessary, all fluids in your Acura do wear out over time. Today we'll discuss one of the most important fluids (although all fluids in your Lexus are important) that can directly affect your safety - Brake Fluid.
Brake fluid is a type of hydraulic fluid used in hydraulic brake applications in automobiles, motorcycles, light trucks, and even some bicycles. It is used to convert the force from your brake pedal into pressure, and to amplify braking force. This works unlike a gas, liquids are not easily compressible. Most brake fluids used today are glycol-ether based so it won't boil or freeze easily like another important fluid, engine coolant.
Unfortunately, this same property makes brake fluid hygroscopic, which can be a problem if not addressed as part of your Acura's routine maintenance. Hygroscopic means to "absorb water." Therefore, because brake fluid is hygroscopic, it will tend to absorb water and moisture over time.
Your Acura braking system is simple yet complex with its Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). The components rely on the brake fluid to lubricate and remove moisture from the system or undesirable conditions like corrosion could occur.
Your owner's manual recommended service interval to replace your Acura's brake fluid is every two years. If you are uncertain if your Acura needs this, just ask any of our friendly service advisors for help.
