We need to see your medical card! Here's why: A routine vision exam contains two components, the vision part of the exam which is the refractive exam (is one better, or two?) a dilation, and a prescription for glasses or contacts. The second component is looking for medical conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Additionally if you come in for an eye infection, abrasion, or a foreign body those would all be medical concerns that would be billed to your medical insurance just like a normal doctors office visit. Please make sure we have your most current insurance cards on file!

We'd like to officially welcome Kayla to our staff here at Adrian Eyecare! Kayla comes to us as a Certified Personal Trainer who enjoys yoga, working out, cooking, writing and being out in nature. She's previously been employed as a health coach, a caregiver, and in the customer service field. Her favorite part of her job here at AEO is getting to know the patients, and the sense of community that comes with it. We're happy to have her as an addition here in the office, when you see her make sure to say hello!

Everyone's heard of the 20-20-20 Rule: "take a 20 second break every 20 minutes of close work and gaze at objects at least 20 feet away" to help alleviate eye strain. Did you know that it's different for children? Experts recommend the 20-20-2 Rule, "After 20 minutes of close work, children should gaze at objects in the distance for at least 20 seconds, and they should be outside intermittently for at least 2 hours per day". Why, you ask? "Outdoor light exposure during childhood is the most critical known modifiable risk factor for myopia (nearsightedness). Outdoor light exposure prevents or delays the onset of myopia and may slow progression" according to Dwight Akerman, Chief Medical Editor of Review of Myopia Management. These findings were based on studies completed at the Erasmus University Myopia Research Group. The studies showed a significant effect of outdoor light exposure when children have a minimum of 2 hours of intermittent outdoor light exposure per day. Get your kids outside!
