Dr. Beverly is now 6 days out since his first of (2) Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses. The first day he felt a little mild fatigue and soreness at the injection site- he says this is nothing but his usual fatigue. His next dose will be the second week of January and we will keep you posted after that dose. Millions of frontline healthcare professionals have now received both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines safely. We expect that after the second dose he may have more fatigue, a mild temperature and mild headache. During clinical trials, the second dose elicited more mild symptoms. Please remember: we need to continue to wear masks. Although many are being vaccinated, this does not protect the vast majority, wash hands and use hand sanitizer when this is not possible and we must remain physically distant. #covidvaccine #vaccineswork #thisisyourshot
Today, Lukia Beverly, MSN CPNP received the first of (2) Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses. Outside of very mild soreness at the injection site right after she received the shot, she didn’t have any immediate side effects or problems. We’ll keep you posted on how she’s feeling. She heads back for dose#2 in 28 days! Thanks to @chkd_kids and Children’s Health Network. We hope the vaccine is available very soon for all of our adult patients! Stay tuned for exciting news!! #healthequity #covidvaccine #accessmatters #coronavirusvirginia #moderna #NPsLead #napnap #aanp #npsrock #blacknursesrock

We are Black History. My name is Lukia DeWitt Beverly and I have been a pediatric nurse practitioner for 20 years. I’m currently enrolled at ODU working on my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. After graduating from nursing school at The University of Virginia, I discovered my passion- working with children and adolescents! After working with an amazing nurse practitioner, I knew I had to go back to school. (Mentors are so very important!) I decided to return to school two years after graduation and obtained my Master of Science in Nursing from Akron University. After fulfilling the condition of marriage- to move back to Virginia- together with my husband, I opened my independent internal medicine, pediatric practice. It has been a wild ride, filled with many, many mistakes, but 16 years later we are continuing to learn and grow! COVID-19 has changed so many of the ways we offer care, but we’re ready to face new challenges head-on!! . . . . #NPsLead #BlackNPsrock #NPs4Kids #napnap #aanp #nurse #np #blacknursepractitioner #blacknurses #pediatricnursepractitioner
