About

ABOUT US
Advanced Gastroenterology provides state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures and comprehensive treatment for health conditions affecting the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. This full-service medical practice -- located in Union City, Tennessee -- includes three clinics: Summit Endoscopy Center, the MediSpa, and Summit Weight Loss.
Since Dr. Kofi Nuako opened Advanced Gastroenterology in 2004, they’ve proudly practiced an approach that values the unique symptoms and concerns of each patient, provides personalized care, and delivers the most advanced gastroenterology care.
At Advanced Gastroenterology patients receive medical care for gastrointestinal problems. From hemorrhoid treatment to determining the cause of persistent symptoms, such as abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, indigestion, chronic diarrhea, or constipation, patients can depend on Dr. Nuako’s experience and an extensively-trained staff to help them overcome gastrointestinal challenges and return to optimal health.
Summit Endoscopy Center is a hub of expert diagnostic procedures where patients receive colonoscopies, upper GI endoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, and the innovative capsule endoscopy.
Many patients are candidates for capsule endoscopy, which involves swallowing a tiny camera tucked into a vitamin-sized capsule, then the camera transmits images as it travels through the length of the gastrointestinal tract.
For those who struggle to lose weight or to maintain a healthy weight, compassionate care is available at Summit Weight Loss. Whether you need to lose 10 pounds or 100 pounds, you receive dietary guidance, have access to the effective meal replacements, and benefit from the ongoing support and encouragement you need to lose weight successfully.

One set of gastrointestinal disorders is called functional disorders. These disorders are ones in which the bowels look normal, but they don’t function normally. Disorders like Irritable Bowel Syndrome and constipation are included in this set.
I’ve been having occasional stomach pain lately, though it goes away quickly. If the pain is unusual or persistent, check with your gastroenterologist. Catching any condition in its early stages greatly enhances the prospects of a complete recovery. And knowing whether that pain signals something more serious or not will give you peace of mind.
What should you expect if you see the gastroenterologist for diverticulitis? Often, the treatment will include a program of rest, pain medication, a restricted diet for a short period, and antibiotics.
While Crohn's disease often affects the small intestine, ulcerative colitis is a condition of the large intestine. Like, Crohn's, there is no known cause for ulcerative colitis, which is often diagnosed with an endoscopy.
