As we mourn the loss of the young actor, Chadwick Boseman to colon cancer, please remember that colonoscopies save lives.

This week we are celebrating "National Hospital Week". So it is time to pause and think about all the different people working in hospitals to keep us safe and well. The list is long and includes: physicians, physician assistants and nurses, lab techs, food service, laundry and environmental workers, bio med engineers, case management, aides and techs,volunteers, gift shop employees and security guards and administrative teams - I am sure I have forgotten someone. The theme this year is "A Week of Thanks". Please take time to thank a hospital employee - they are truly on the front lines.
Today we celebrate National Nurses Day! It is also the kickoff for National Nurses Week which ends May 12 each year - . May 12 being the birthday of Florence Nightingale. Ms. Nightingale founded modern nursing at the end of the 19th century. It was because of Florence Nightingale that hand washing and solid hygiene practices during the Crimean War helped reduce the death rate from 42% to 2%. Thank you nurses everywhere for the amazing work you do and your caring spirit. Thank a Nurse today!!!!.
October 6 – October 12 is National Physician Assistant Week and it’s the 20th anniversary of the first graduating class of PAs. We celebrate and honor this profession! We, at Advanced Surgical Associates, are thankful for the wonderful care provided by the PAs in the practice. The PAs care for patients in the office and hospital setting, assist in the operating room, and care for trauma patient in the surgical ICU in collaboration with ASA surgeons. They are an essential part of our surgical team. Join us in the celebration and congratulating the physician assistants in our community.
