Your preschool teachers are the only teachers in the nation still teaching from the classroom. There is no hazard pay, no overtime, no bonuses, no front of the line at Costco to get much needed supplies (that we still get only one of) and we aren't recognized by the community as front line heroes. Here's what we DO get... We get the opportunity to teach young children of our community how to survive a pandemic with grace and caution. We support the essential workers of our community so they can be there for you and your families when you need them most. We bring normalcy (with lots of disinfectant and hand sanitizer☺️) to the children we care for, because believe it or not, a child's mental well-being can be just as important as their physical well-being. We have put in hours of cleaning, organizing, scheduling and shopping to ensure the safety of each child that attends. Much like a nurse we are endlessly scrubbing our hands, much like a janitor we are endlessly cleaning every surface, door knob, toy and chair around us, much like law enforcement we are on constant crowd control to keep the children spaced away from each other, and exactly as a teacher should be we are still committed to our lesson plans and teaching.
