Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. We wanted to pass on some information about a letter writing campaign to your legislators regarding the ERS pension funding issue. If you'd like to participate, let us know. This is the template below. Thank you!
Happy New Year Everyone! Hope you had a wonderful and healthy holiday! We wanted to let you all know about the Biennial Convention that will be March 5, 2021. Due to the continuing rise in Covid, it will be virtual, via zoom! You’ll find all the information below on the flyer! Hope to “see” you all there!
Our chapter members are automatically members of the Alliance for Retired Americans. ARA is doing virtual phone banking to other ARA retirees in Georgia to get out the vote for the Jan 5 runoff there. We are hoping to elect the U.S. Senate candidates who will vote to send money to the states in order to help fund the state's operations during COVID-19. (States can't print money like the federal government can). If you might be interested in making some calls, click on this link https://www.mobilize.us/afscme/event/364845/

The Texas Comptroller's Office (Glenn Hegar) is proposing rule changes that would make it harder for state employees to belong to an employee association. This comes when the state employee pension plan is only 65% funded and projected to run out of money for lack of state funding. There has been no more important time for state employees to organize to preserve their employment benefits. Please take a moment to send the Comptroller a letter opposing the rule change by clicking on the link.
