Dr. Agdel Hernandez Colon is a board-certified psychiatrist practicing in New York City’s Financial District, where he specializes in adult psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine, integrating medical and psychiatric training to provide accurate assessments and customized treatment plans specific to each patient’s needs.
He treats the full scope of psychiatric disorders, substance-related problems, and medical-neurological comorbidities. Dr. Hernandez Colon’s clinical interests include mood disorders and pain, adult ADHD, men’s mental health, and LGBT issues.
Dr. Hernandez Colon received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico Medical School, which is a fully accredited US school where he received training in general surgery and internal medicine. After graduating cum laude, he trained in general psychiatry at the prestigious Georgetown University Hospital of Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
While at Georgetown, Dr Hernandez-Colon served as a Chief Resident. He worked with and treated Veterans at the VA Hospital in Washington DC and Undeserved Patients at a Community Clinic in Montgomery County, Maryland.
After receiving exceptional training in psychotherapy, he returned to New York City to complete a fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center. During this time, Dr. Hernandez Colon also pursued training in integrated medicine and psychiatry.
Dr Hernandez Held positions in Academics including Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry of SUNY Downstate Medical Center and at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center. He served as the Medical Director of The Comprehensive Psychiatric emergency Program at Brookdale Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y
Currently, Dr. Hernandez Colon is the Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry and the Associate Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program at Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey.
