We spent last weekend at the annual Slider Throw Down up at High Street! We featured a Jalapeño Popper Slider made with an Aioli custom blend patty, charred jalapeño, cream cheese fondue, crispy onions and three citrus BBQ Aioli! The annual Slider Throw Down benefits the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation.

The most rewarding thing about the work we get to do is when it makes a difference in someone's life. The Burger & Shake Creation contest with Aioli Gourmet Burgers and Catering and Alice Cooper's Solid Rock was such a great experience. As our burger winner, Francis, was on TV with Brad Perry 2.0 and chef Tommy D'Ambrosio I could see the love and pride beaming from his parents as they stood next to me watching their son's moment in the spotlight sharing his love and passion for cooking. Thank you to Arizona Daily Mix for supporting these efforts.
The girls that won the shake contest, Kaitlynn and Mackenzie, from Adobe Mountain High School couldn't be on the show. But, these girls have overcome remarkable obstacles to be able to participate in this contest. The girls are enrolled in the Career Readiness class, a part of the ARIZONA@WORK program through the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections. This program allows them the opportunity to explore potential career paths and educational options for post-release. I was thrilled to learn they have also been awarded scholarships to pursue further education.

I had the chance to tour the Phoenix Teen Center and it is amazing!! There were 235,000 people employed in the restaurant industry in Arizona and about 70-80% were furloughed or laid off due to the pandemic. That is 165,000-180,000 people.
