Unique Case:
This is a 6mo old Boston Terrier referred to us from DeSoto Veterinary Hospital and Mobile Services. She came over for Intermittent paroxysmal collapse (falling over after getting excited). MRI revealed cerebellar vermal structural (congenital) anomaly. There is no treatment for this anomaly, but the event could stabilize in frequency as the dog reaches maturity. October is National Animal Safety and Protection Month
A dental cleaning is recommended once a year for pets. Smaller dogs like Yorkies and Dachshunds are more prone to dental disease and may require cleanings more often. The dental procedure does require anesthesia in order for us to be able to scale, exam and polish the teeth. A dental CT also may be recommended for advance periodontal disease to evaluate the roots and gum tissue. We have been seeing an increase number of ticks on our patients. During this time of year ticks are seeking a warm body so having your pet on flea and tick prevention is important.
