Hope all my Facebook friends are well. I wanted to make a post talking about duct work. Its overlooked a lot. You can have good air flow and still have a hot room. If your outer insulation is damaged or missing you can have a lot temperature lost. I have seen air coming out of the vents 15 Degrees warmer than what is coming out of the AC unit. This can cause comfort issues and high utility bills. I added some pics to show what duct damage as well as a new run. Also a FLIR thermal pic showing a cold spot indicating a duct leak. I hope everyone is doing well. With the strange state of things this summer many people have not been as concerned about their regular system service for the summer. As a result we have seen a lot of clogged drains and systems shutting down and compressor failures due to dirty condenser coils. These are normal maintenance items that should be looked at annually. These are the kinds of things we run into allot. This unit is pretty old and probably never had proper air flow. notice about a 3rd of the supply plenum is blocked. That's the square silver duct coming of the end of the unit on the left. this can cause water issues as well as air flow problems and the indoor coil to rust out as well as compressor failure. This unit actually caused ceiling damage resulting in replacement of the ceiling and wood floors. even without duct repairs the water damage could have been avoided with a float switch. Happy Monday Facebook friends. Thought I would share this picture and the safety concerns it shows. This is from a system we looked at. Its a gas Furnace with vent pipe not secured properly and combustion air. This is where Carbon Monoxide issues can happen. These are the things that are caught during system inspections. Also if you have gas appliances you really should have some form of Carbon Monoxide detection in your home. Multiple detectors are recommended. One in the master bedroom one the general living area and on each floor if you have a two story home. Let us know if you would like to get on our schedule for the fall system check.
