Airstream Pro Tip: Remember to lubricate your hitch ball with lubricants made with Teflon or white lithium grease. Avoid thin oils and lubricants not specifically designed for high-pressure situations. If you don't want to get grease on you when not in use, you can cover the hitch ball after towing with a tennis ball or plastic bag, or remove the ball mount.

Airstream Pro Tip: The windows and vent fans have rubber seals around the edges, which sometimes get sticky after long periods of storage. You can help prevent this by annually cleaning the seal with soapy water and applying Aerospace Protectant 303 or silicone spray. If your Airstream has the type of windows that are hinged at the top and open fully, you can also leave strings of waxed dental floss between the glass and the rubber. When it's time to open the window after storage, you can gently pull the dental floss sideways to help release the glass from the rubber seal. -The Newbies Guide to Airstreaming

Airstream Pro Tip: “INVERTER” button is only used when NOT plugged in to 110-volt power (to use outlets inside and outside trailer). This will drain batteries very quickly because it is inverting 12-volt power to 110-volt power to run items such as microwaves, coffee maker, hairdryer, etc. Turn off any system not in use to retain battery power.

They should be kept full of water, cleaned, and charged monthly. A battery that is allowed to completely lose its charge will never regain its original power or a full charge.
The following recommendations may be helpful if the battery is to be stored:
• When storing the battery in a vehicle or vessel, it is not necessary to leave it on charge. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent inadvertent discharging of the battery which may lead to a complete discharge.
• Fully charge the battery before putting it in storage and store in a cool place.
• Charge the battery every 30 to 60 days to ensure maximum battery life.
NOTE - A battery will self-discharge 1-3% per month at 80 degrees.

Airstream Pro Tip: Here is the Airstream annual maintenance checklist that you should do to keep your travel trailer running smoothly.
-Battery
Clean, neutralize, and coat terminals with petroleum jelly.
-LPG (liquid propane gas) Tanks
Have purged by LPG supplier.
-Seams
Check and reseal exterior seams, windows, lights, and vents as needed.
-Hitch Coupler and Ball
Ensure all parts operate freely. Replace any component if worn or damaged.
-Interior Cabinetry
Visual Inspection of latches Locks, Hinges and Slides. Silicone Spray as needed.

Airstream Pro Tip: To clean your fiberglass shower stall unit, use warm water and a liquid detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners; they may scratch and dull the surface of your fiberglass unit. Stubborn stains can be removed with solvents such as turpentine, paint thinner, or acetone. Restore dulled areas by rubbing with an automotivetype liquid cleaner, and then put the soft glow back into the sides of your unit with a light application of liquid wax. DO NOT wax the shower bottom as it may become slippery leading to a fall. The telephone shower head is designed to give maximum flexibility in usage, and provides for water-saving techniques when using your touring coach on self-containment. It can be held in the hand and moved about the body. Normally, the best water conservation procedure is to wet the entire body and then turn the water off. Apply soap, lather thoroughly, and then rinse the soap off. -Airstream Academy

Airstream Pro Tip: In BACKING UP the important thing to remember is to DO EVERYTHING SLOWLY and to correct immediately if you see the trailer turning the wrong way. Concentrate on the rear of the trailer. With your tow vehicle and trailer in a straight line, back up slowly and turn the bottom of the steering wheel in the direction you want the trailer to go Watch from the window or in the mirror until the rear of the trailer is pointing in the desired direction. Your tow vehicle will be following the trailer in an arc. Straighten the tow vehicle and trailer by turning the steering wheel more sharply, and then when they are in line, straighten the steering wheel. Always try to back to your left because the visibility is much better. When you do not make it on the first try it is usually much easier to pull forward to your original straight position and start over. If your spouse or traveling companion normally directs you when backing they should position themselves forward of the tow vehicle so the driver can easily see them. Their directions should always indicate to the driver the direction the rear of the trailer should go. A little practice in a parking lot with the person giving directions can save a lot of frustration when backing into a campsite. -Airstream Academy

Airstream Pro Tip: Plugging the trailer into a 110-volt power for 4-6 hours prior to towing will allow enough time to bring the reefer to desired temperature. This will let you know it is operating correctly and cut down on liquid propane (LPG) use.

Airstream Pro Tip: The Equalizer hitch arms (or stabilizer bars) can be easily operated and placed into position, after locking hitch to the vehicle ball. Lock hitch onto the ball and raise trailer and tow vehicle using electric jack (or hand crank the jack) to a height which allows movement of the equalizer arms into brackets attached to the trailer. After the arms are in position, retract trailer tongue jack to tow position and complete attachment of breakaway, tow chains and seven-way cord to the tow vehicle.

Airstream Pro Tip: Some Airstreamers ask what size of generator is needed to operate an Airstream. Here is a tip from Airstream Inc. A 1000 watt generator may be used to charge just the batteries. However, if wanting to run appliances such as microwave or AC units, it is recommended to have at least 4,000 watts or more* (This is for a 30- Amp system).
* Many Airstreamer’s accomplish this using two portable generators run in parallel.
