The Akron Children's Hospital Adolescent Medicine team is specially trained in caring for the range of medical, social, emotional, sexual, educational and nutritional concerns that are common in individuals from puberty through 23 years of age.
Our care focuses on respecting individuality; supporting physical and emotional growth and development; and educating and empowering teens to ultimately take ownership of their health care and life decisions. We also help manage adolescent issues related to chronic medical conditions.
Common health issues we treat include:
- Acne
- Eating disorders
- Menstrual problems
- Sexually transmitted diseases
Adolescent Medicine offers the Center for Gender-Affirming Medicine for transgender and LGBTQ+ youth. Our multidisciplinary team offers pubertal suppression, gender-affirming hormones, mental health care coordination, and supportive care for patients and their families.
