Normally, threaded inserts are installed using a special tool created by the manufacturer. But what if you don't have this special tool? Well don't despair, we have you covered. In this video we'll show you a way to install threaded inserts without a tool in wood. All you need is a bolt.
To be clear, using the tool specifically designed for installing the threaded inserts you have is the best and easiest way to install them. But in a pinch, this is a viable alternative for most installations in wood.
This trick only works for threaded inserts designed for wood applications. We do not advise trying this with threaded inserts for metal applications.

Tri-bulb/fold rivets! Have you ever used them in an application? Tri Bulb or exploding rivets have a wider grip range due to the way the hat bulges. QUICK TIPS:
-Use a Hammer Drill with an SDS Bit of the same diameter
equal to the Wedge Anchor for installation.
-Select the appropriate anchor material for the environment
it will be installed in.
-Tape Drill Bit for drilling depth.
-Wedge Anchor should be embedded in concrete not less
than 2-1/2."
-Clean any debris from the hole or the hole's surface
after drilling.
-Use a Hammer to install the Wedge Anchor into the hole
with a minimum of 1" sticking out, depending on what
materials will be anchored.

Markings or stamps on the head of your fastener? Head markings can represent many things, such as a manufacture signature, grade or strength, or the specific material. For this carriage bolt, it looks like grade (Grade A 307) and manufacture signature.

Heavy-duty jobs need heavy-duty fasteners. When it comes to dock and piers, your job is going to handle heavy loads and a lot of lumber. That translates to a load of pressure on the bolts and screws you're using to fasten it all together. That is what the aptly named Dock Washers are for.
Dock washers, like fender washers, are washers with oversized outer diameters used for distributing the load over a wider area. Unlike fender washers, dock washers are MUCH larger and thicker. They're designed for very heavy loads and pressures, such as the kind you may see with all the lumber used to make docks and piers.
