D.C. PROTESTS ON TRUMP’S BIG NIGHT: Demonstrators have assembled in Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C. ahead of Pres. Donald Trump’s speech tonight, the final night of the Republican National Convention. Throughout the convention, speakers have slammed protesters calling for racial justice throughout this country. Last night, Vice President Mike Pence even dismissed Joe Biden’s assertion that law enforcement has an implicit bias against minorities. No speaker at the GOP convention has unequivocally said Black lives matter. Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said on night one of the convention that saying there is institutional racism is a lie; ‘America is not a racist country.’ This week’s rhetoric contrasts greatly with the DNC’s approach to racial justice. Joe Biden’s closing night speech celebrated protests across the country, saying that America was finally ready to do ‘the hard work of rooting out systemic racism.’
