This is how they do it...let me put some context to this post. I was born in Two Harbors and Spent most of my life in the Duluth Area and i had never seen them loading. Last summer was lucky enough to witness this. Impressed with the power and engineering marvel of what i was able to get on video. My Late Father Dan Nilsen nicknamed" Ratchet" worked on this Ore Dock as an electrician when i was a child. Also have a number of friends who currently work on the Dock. Glad to Share with you all!!

We recently finished a large inspection project with a new customer who has been in business for over 100 years. While going over the results of the inspections with them they commented “This is the first time we have EVER felt good about the quality and thoroughness of the inspections we received!”
Our inspectors are independently certified in order to provide customers with high quality comprehensive inspections. WE WANT TO THANK OUR INSPECTORS, Bruce W, Corey P, Connor S and Connor W whose dedication and hard work every day helps improve equipment and job site safety.
On this Veteran's Day, we are grateful for the veterans and active service members in our community. We would especially like to thank our employees, Corey Parsons and Bruce Winters, who are veterans of the U.S. Air Force. We are honored to support their careers and have them at All Test.
We are doing an occasional series of posts that will highlight problems and deficiencies we have found over the years during some of our inspections. These deficiencies may compromise the safe operation of the unit being inspected.
Issue - Bird Cage Wire
What is Bird Caging? Bird caging is a wire rope that is distorted causing a section of the rope to look like a bird cage. Also known as lantern or basket deformation. It is a distinct type of wire rope deterioration and one of the most severe. A wire rope in this condition calls for immediate removal of the rope from service.
There are many reasons bird caging may occur, some potential causes are:
-mismatch between rope diameter and drum groove dimensions
-wire rope with sheave grooves inappropriate for rope diameter
-badly planned modifications
-rope installed incorrectly in crane reeving
-wire rope with induced turn
-internal rope deterioration
-incorrect shortening
Diligent inspection and proper preparation and installation can often prevent this issue.
