Congratulations Sam!
You and your brothers Tucker, and George are some of the bravest Yorkies we have met. They weren't a bit nervous for their dental cleanings this week.
Slots book up quick! We cant wait to see your pet this month for their dental cleaning.
While ticks are more prevalent during the spring and summer months, they can be found year-round. In fact, during fall when the weather turns chilly, they can seek shelter where you might least expect it. Learn more: http://bit.ly/Tick-Free
What a big day for our little Ziggy! He was neutered today and still looks a little shook.
He had a baby tooth that never fell out and stayed along side his adult canine tooth. This is sometimes a common problem in small breed dogs. It is important to get them removed because they crowd the adult tooth and can cause discomfort and excess plaque to accumulate at that area. It's rather a simple procedure and perfect when the dog is already under anesthesia for a surgical procedure (like spay/neuter).
Every cat owner knows this experience!
You’ve probably seen memes of cats knocking things off tables, or maybe your own cat does it. Ever wonder why? The answer might surprise you! http://bit.ly/WhyDoesMyPet

In the spirit of Hills Pet Nutrition's Clear the Shelter event- Alta Vista Animal Hospital donated 250 pounds of dog and cat food to "Tails" animal shelter in Delta, CO.
The entire month of August, Hills Pet Nutrition teamed up with NBC and Telemundo to find homes for pets in shelters nationwide. This year was different than previous because all adoptions were virtual, but the event was as successful as ever-140,611 animals were adopted!

You can still call and schedule your pet's dental cleaning! As long as you call in October to schedule we will extend the special into November.
Thank you to everyone who has brought their furry friend to see us this month so far!
We might be a little obsessed with before and after pictures this dental month.
Kitty cats need dental cleanings also!
Cats often aren't as excited about dental chews, or teeth brushing as their canine companions. Therefore dental disease is harder to avoid. Doing routine care will help your pet feel better and overall improve their quality of life.
Max has a heart on his belly! Can you spot it?
Blood draw photo op! Dr. Johnson is a great member of our team and we have some funny days together.

This is Princess Ali-she loves snuggling and talking to the birds through the front window.
Another multi-species household belongs to Caitlin. She is one of our Veterinary Technicians and loves her creatures very much.
Louie is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and lounging in the sun!
Luca is incredibly gentle and affectionate. He loves hikes, cuddles, and family time at the park.
Sansa is the princess of the house; nothing makes her happier than a can of her favorite food and a nap in your lap!
Bean is the special needs kiddo of the house. He is both blind and deaf but nothing gets him down! He loves snuggles, tuna, and comforting his family.
Nayru is the newest family member. She loves her warm hammock and eating her favorite greens!
Meet Danielle's ZOO!
Fasa is the old man of the group and a registered Therapy dog.
Ricco is the problem child, but he keeps finding ways back into his mama's good graces.
Luke is a tad brainless but the most loveable giant! His world revolves around his stuffed lobster.
Clark LouAnn is the queen of the pack. She is full of wit and charm.
Bentley Grace is from Serbia and the baby of the group. She has been the most easy going puppy, and the next to be therapy certified.

Chanel is Aspen's 15 year old Papillion and the most loyal on the group!
Cecilia the kitty cats in nicknamed "Biddle"
Some cats love to go on outside adventures, even in the cold! If you take your feline friend for a walk, be sure to wipe down their paws and fur afterwards so they can groom themselves safely.
This month we received a wonderful update from one of our dear patients Rocky!
One year ago today Rocky was at our clinic getting surgery done on his knee. He had a torn ligament that needed to be repaired so he could return to being an active, happy, and goofy boy.
His mama drove many hours back and forth for follow-up exams and x-rays. Thanks to her love and dedication Rocky recovered beautifully and has continued to thrive.
This update brought a smile to all our staff. Take care big man!
We are seeing double!
These handsome boys received routine dental cleanings!
Now their teeth are as white as their fur.
Whether you’re bundling up for a brisk walk or letting your pet roam the yard, keep an eye out for these common cold-weather hazards to pets. http://bit.ly/VS-SafetyTips
We get to see so many unique and beautiful/handsome cats!
So of course we must share their pictures with you!
Don't forget we also care for smaller pocket pets such as: ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and the occasional hamster or rat.
Our clinic will be closed on Saturday until further notice.
Normal office hours will continue 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
We apologize for the inconvenience to our clients.
Waylan is an handsome new addition to the Alta Vista family.
We look forward to seeing more of him as he gets all the vaccine boosters puppies need in order to be properly protected against diseases.
Will is a very sweet boy!
He comes in often so we can recheck his insulin. He was recently diagnosed with diabetes and his mama has gone above and beyond getting him taken care of.

Alta Vista Animal Hospital updated their business hours.
Keep in mind these winter safety tips to keep your fur babies comfortable and protected this season!
Diane provided this adorable picture of her kitty during the holidays. She loved hanging out inside the tree. She managed to squeeze herself onto a limb without knocking off a single ornament.
Please share your adorable holiday pictures of your pets with us!
Meet dear Khaleesi.
This tough little lady received a crushing injury to a rear leg. Her injury shocked our staff and was horrific to lay eyes upon. Unfortunately her leg could not be repair and Dr. Johnson preformed an amputation to relieve her of the destroyed limb and further pain.
She has healed miraculously since and is up now running around like nothing had ever happened. We love seeing her strong and happy. Her mom sent us a wonderful thank you card and these photos.
It's cases like Khaleesi's that remind us how lucky we are to be able to help animals. Thank you for allowing us to be your Veterinary Team.
This fuzzy face is too cute not to sneak away in your pocket!
Thank you to all our patients and their wonderful owners for giving us a year full of love, laughter, tears, challenges and room to grow as your Veterinary team. Through the love and heartbreak we've experience in 2020 we are excited to come to work every days and see everyone's smiling (and goofy) faces.
We wish everyone a safe holiday and a joyous 2021.
Sometimes I make funny faces at the technicians!
Oh sweet boy, we need your humor every day.
Who doesn't love a soft warm puppy? They are goofy, adventurous and their "puppy breath" if bottled would be in everyone's essential oil cabinet. Although it's temping to pick up your bundle of joy as soon as you've laid eyes on them please consider their age.
Studies have shown that understanding puppy socialization periods are crucial to insure you start your puppy off on the right foot. This sensitive period begins at 3 weeks and lasts until 12-14 weeks of age.
Puppies require controlled positive exposure to humans during their development to combat fearfulness and resistance to handling. Abrupt weaning and sudden separation from their mother and siblings can have long term behavioral consequences.
We recommend that no puppy be separated from their littermates before 8 weeks of age. This allows them to get the important social, mental and emotional cues from littermates that translate to healthier behaviors.
Mister Pug-you seem wise to us.

Folds and Smiles. What more could you ask for?
Sometimes our patients don't look impressed.
We love them regardless!
Call us to schedule your pet in! Spots are booking up fast!
Some dogs have better beards than people!
This cool boy had an injury to his left ear a little while back. It doesn't make him any less handsome, and those eyes-aren't they fierce?
Did you know that some breeds are prone to allergy problems?
While every pup is an individual, we commonly see allergy issue in Bulldog breeds, Labradors, German Shepherds, Bichon Frise, and Boxers.
Allergies can present in a number of ways. Sometimes it's obvious like skin rashes, excessive scratching or red inflamed ears. While other times it might present in a dog that is licking or chewing it's paws or hair loss.
If you notice any of these symptoms in your pet we would love to get them in for an appointment to examine them, and discuss with you the variety of options out there for treating allergies. You might be surprised how much relief your pet feels. Ultimately our goal is to make your pet the most comfortable it can be so they can focus on enjoying life!
