Rene Amaya, MD, FAAP, CWSP, is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service to infants, children, and adults in wound care, laser scar revision, and aesthetic procedures at Amaya Wound Healing & Aesthetics in Houston.
Dr. Amaya earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He went on to complete his residency in pediatrics at Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. Following his residency, Dr. Amaya remained at the hospital to serve as chief resident. He then returned to Texas to complete three years of specialty training in pediatric infectious diseases at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Amaya is board-certified in pediatric infectious diseases by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is designated by the American Board of Wound Management as a certified wound specialist physician.
Dr. Amaya remains an active member of the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing, the International Society for Pediatric Wound Care, and the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Amaya is well recognized for his research in complex pediatric wound care and for his numerous scientific conference abstracts and scholarly articles in medical journals. He is also asked to lecture at wound care conferences and seminars throughout the United States and Europe.
At Amaya Wound Healing and Aesthetics, Dr. Amaya offers the most advanced technologies to treat wounds in infants, children, and adults. The center features two state-of-the-art laser devices to treat scars from burns, trauma, surgical procedures, and many other conditions. Dr. Amaya is also highly trained in adult laser cosmetic services, tailoring treatments to patient needs. Both he and his nurse are certified and trained in adult cosmetic services with years of experience administering Botox®, fillers, and microneedling. For the convenience of his patience, he is fluent in both English and Spanish.
When not working with his patients, Dr. Amaya enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children.
