“I had the desire to become an Agency leader from my first day in 2012 with American Income Life Insurance Company (AIL),” recalls Martin Forshee, “and I pursued the opportunity. I’d had a near-fatal motorcycle accident six months before joining AIL and lost my father, who had no life insurance, a month before. My wife and I were stopped at a red light on my motorcycle when a 19-year-old with no driver’s license hit us going 50 to 60 miles per hour. The only reason I’m alive today is because an off-duty police officer happened to be at the scene. He made a tourniquet for my leg to buy me enough time to get to the hospital. At the time, I had a $400,000 term policy in place and understood first-hand the freedom from stress and anxiety our coverage can provide during times of need,” he recalls.
“Prior to my accident, I’d spent five years active duty in the Navy as an aircraft engine mechanic and attended aeronautical college. After the accident, I didn’t know where I was going in terms of career. I briefly worked at a call center until I got a call from American Income Life,” he states. “After my accident and my father’s passing, AIL presented an opportunity for me to educate families on the importance of insurance coverage. Our products protect families’ assets and lessen anxiety and financial hardship when they lose a loved one. My ability to help families, build relationships with Agents, control my personal and professional growth, and balance it with my family of four children has been the most rewarding aspect of joining AIL,” adds Martin.
“In addition to becoming a Master General Agent (MGA) within a year and an Agency Owner (AO) in only eight years, my greatest accomplishment is overcoming the adversity I faced after the accident with a partially severed right leg. For my first two years with AIL, I dealt with staph infections, antibiotics, and the possibility I could lose my leg. Dealing with my injury, while successfully building my AIL career, has been my greatest achievement,” he states proudly.
“My passion, enthusiasm, and faith run deep at American Income Life, and it’s contagious. My team is loyal and passionate about helping families and watching others succeed. We protect future generations with our supplemental benefits and give back to the community through the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank. My team truly cares for others, and I am blessed to work with such good people. We have strong faith and belief in each other and in what we do,” Martin stresses.
“AIL offers outstanding career opportunity for individuals from all walks of life,” he continues. “I didn’t have a college degree or much leadership experience before starting with AIL. If I can do it, anyone can if they are willing to put in the work. Starting with AIL, I was on crutches, and many companies would have turned me away. But American Income Life gave me a chance,” he says. “My goal has always been to help as many families as I can. The only way to create a true impact within our communities is to duplicate our systems and multiply the number of Agents to educate and help more families. If you’re considering a career with AIL, believe in the systems and trust the process. AIL’s systems are in place to help even introverts like me succeed. Remember: make short-term sacrifices for long-term gains. If I could start over with the Company, I would recruit from day one, spend more quality time with my Agents, and invest more income back into the Agency,” Martin emphasizes.
Martin is active with the Word of God ministries in Shreveport and serves in the Air Force Reserves as a crew chief for the B-52 aircraft. In his leisure, he enjoys spending time with his four kids. “We take them camping as often as we can,” he says. He also enjoys hunting and football. “I’m a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Louisiana State University Tigers,” he adds.
