Just a gentle reminder that unemployment is fully taxable to the IRS and Massachusetts. If Massachusetts residents don't elect Federal and MA withholding, there is a likelihood that tax will be owed to one or both next spring. Taxpayers can make withholding changes on online accounts. Although most are trying to survive this pandemic on less income than normal - no one wants to hear there is no refund, but rather a balance due.

If you received an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) this year, either by direct deposit, paper check, or debit card, keep the Notice 1444, "Your Economic Impact Payment," that you would have received a couple of weeks after the payment. Keep it with your tax records for next year as it will be needed for next year's tax preparation.
If you didn't receive an EIP, or received one you believe was less than it should have been, you MAY be eligible to get the difference when you file next year.
