This article is somewhat accurate, however they never mention a word about the difference in the quality of motor oils on the market. Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants easily last for 25,000 miles or 1 year and they have been doing this since 1972. Amsoil does not void any manufacturer's warranty and can be used in any car or truck in both the United States and Europe.
Advertiser always try to lead you down the path of least resistance and convince you their product is better. Let me save you the the time of figuring out which oil is best. I have tested every major brand of synthetic oil on the market. I did not test any petroleum based products because more than likely they will be obsolete in a few years. Here are my results:
I tested every synthetic oil for fuel mileage first then I pulled a samples of each oil for laboratory test at 10,000 miles. The test were performed in a 1989 Toyota Tacoma with a 4.0 Liter with a manual transmission.
Of the top 5 brand names on the market they all fell into a range of 17.1-17.7 mpg. When samples were pulled the test results indicated the oil needed to be changed before the 10,000 miles had been reached.
The Amsoil 5W-30 tested came in at 19.9 mpg. A sample was pulled at 22,780 miles and the results indicated "oil is suitable for continued use". Later I changed the transmission and differential fluids and my mileage jumped to 22.6 mpg. You could perform these test yourself, but if you do always make sure you test the Amsoil last. The residual oil leftover in the engine will benefit the second oil if you test Amsoil first.

After using Amsoil for 22 years I calculated I have saved at least $6,600 on combined oil changes (1/year vs. 2 or 3 of a lesser quality oil) and fuel savings since my mpg increased 3.5mpg. I can't understand why everyone doesn't use Amsoil.
