Latest Amy Richter Orthodontics news

Dear Patients and Families, As many of you know, the New York State on PAUSE executive order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic has mandated the closure of dental offices through April 30th with the exception of emergency care. We will be contacting everyone to reschedule cancelled appointments once we are able to reopen the office, but have not begun rescheduling yet because the date has been changed several times. Emergency care has been defined as problems such as severe pain, swelling, infection, or trauma. Unfortunately, broken braces, missing colored ties, broken wires, etc. are not deemed true emergencies under these guidelines even if your teeth do move back slightly towards their original positions. Please take good care of your appliances and follow our “foods to avoid” list to minimize the potential for broken braces. As always, please make sure to keep up with excellent brushing, flossing, and use of fluoride rinse to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and white spots. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your treatment, we can be reached by email at info@richterortho.com or call 716-631-9924 and leave a message and we will get back to you in a timely fashion. For our patients currently in braces, please be assured that many wires and elastics that we use remain active for long periods of time and your teeth will continue to move in the right direction during this closure period. If you are wearing elastics/rubber bands, you can make significant progress by continuing to wear them as directed at your last appointment. If you have run out of rubber bands and need more, please email us at info@richterortho.com or call 716-631-9924 and leave a message with your mailing address, and we would be happy to mail you some more. For Invisalign patients, please continue to wear your trays as directed. If you have run out of trays, and you do not need to have tooth reshaping, impressions, or attachments done, please continue to wear your most recent tray for at least 12 hours a day and contact us about potentially picking up more aligners. If you have retainers, please take good care of them during this time. We are not able to take the impressions needed to replace lost or broken retainers until we are cleared to return to work, and orthodontic retainer labs have also been deemed “non-essential” businesses subject to closure. We have created a way for any patient who wants a “virtual check-in/appointment” to have your progress assessed. This is particularly helpful for patients who are wearing rubber bands or in Invisalign trays, but can be beneficial for anyone who has a question or would just like to know how their treatment is going in absence of a traditional office visit. Just visit our website at www.richterortho.com and click the red tab that says “PROGRESS/EMERGENCY CHECK-IN”. If you are using the mobile version of our website on your phone, click the tab on the bottom that says “Check_In” to get started. You will be asked to submit five quick pictures of your/your child’s mouth that can easily be taken with a cell phone. After reviewing your photos, I will evaluate your treatment and email you back any recommendations. If you do not already have one, you will need to set up a Google account to utilize this feature. We miss each and every one of our patients and can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces again! Thank you all very much for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. Please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay home if possible!
