We are posting this in response to the USA Today article on March 2, 2021 regarding adverse effects and pet deaths related to Seresto collars. We at the Animal Hospital of Signal Mountain in conjunction with Signal Mountain Veterinary Clinic take our product recommendations for your pets seriously. At this time we feel that Seresto collars are a safe and effective flea and tick preventative for MOST pets. 1. The article in question states multiple incidents where pets died or were harmed wearing the collar. These incidents do not take in to consideration underlying health conditions that may have caused a pet’s death. Additionally, a medical examination after death was not performed in most cases to elucidate a definitive cause of death. 2. The incidence of counterfeit medication in human and veterinary medicine is high and continuing to grow. Purchasing medication from online sources increases the likelihood of receiving counterfeit medication which could inadvertently harm your pet. We recommend that medications be purchased through a licensed veterinarian to ensure that your pet is receiving the safest options available. Your veterinarian will also be aware of underlying conditions that may cause some preventative medication to be more of a risk to your pet. Understand that we take the safety and welfare of our clients’ pets very seriously. If at any point we feel differently about this issue we will make another statement. Thank you all for your trust in us and we are proud to be a part of your community. Sincerely, Drs. Cornman, Koss, Tapp and Giglio (AHSM) Drs. Van Horn and Terrell (SMVC)
