Looking back on those 2 months when stores were forced to close, I remember that deep sense of panic- but also HOPE because everyone was committed to shopping small and keeping their favorite businesses going. ❤️ Now... to be honest, things feel more uncertain than ever. Although we’re “allowed” to be open,
- schools are closed, so our hours are limited while we homeschool,
- we are unable to host events at the shop, a major source of sales (and energy and fun!),
- most of the offices around us are closed, so we are really missing our weekday regulars 😢,
- no boat shows, Navy home game crowds or other big events in Annapolis that used to bring in a lot of tourists,
- our Midnight Madness nights in December are unlikely to happen... or they will look much different than before. 😜
Looking ahead to the holiday season, small business owners need your help now more than ever to make it to 2021! Now’s the time to plan ahead for gifts and make a commitment to shop local and shop small. Our community has been AMAZING and we are so lucky to have made it this far! Good Morning! Textile Recycling is BACK at our County Recycling Centers! We appreciate your patience and understanding during the program's closure.
We can accept items for reuse as well as those that cannot be re-worn. (i.e. items with stains and holes, unmatched pairs, etc.) Please bag your reusable items separately from the non-reusable. And a kind reminder that textiles/clothing should never be placed in your curbside recycling carts and containers.
Reusable clothing is sent to developing countries. The bales are loaded into cargo containers where they are sold as “raw bales” or oftentimes sorted for sale in open-air markets, bazaars, or local second hand shops. These shops not only become a valuable source of affordable clothing, but create jobs as well.
There's lots of value in the non-reusable material as well, so don't throw out that single sock or that sweater with holes!
As stated on the website of our textiles contractor Mid-Atlantic Clothing Recycling LLC: "About 50% of the clothing collected is recycled as second-hand clothing. 20% is made into cleaning and polishing cloths for industrial use. 26% is recycled for use as fiber for insulation products, mattresses, fiberboard, upholstery, and even re-woven into new textiles." Cool stuff!

Have you spent any time in Annapolis? Our restaurants are hurting and I'm fundraising to help them out. Naptown Food is putting together a cookbook featuring Annapolis area restaurants' recipes. Proceeds will go to Feed Anne Arundel, which is an organization that hires restaurants and workers to feed the underserved. Everyone benefits, even up the food chain. Great stuff. Anyway, I'm letting you know because you might be familiar with some of our restaurants and want some of the recipes! Plus, again, great cause.😊 I'll be taking preorders starting in February and will be printing by March. I also hope to have these online for download, for those who like their recipes on their tablets. You can check out www.naptownfood.com to see some more photos. Cheers!

#Spring is around the corner on this #FoodieFriday. Enjoy these light & airy SPONGE #cakes set on a bed of spring sorrel leaves and adorned with sugared red currants (This is a cheat because red currants are not a seasonal spring Maryland berry, but they are pretty and now available at Whole Foods so why not?). This recipe is called CHESTON'S SPONGE CAKE which was submitted to Maryland’s Way, The Hammond-Harwood House Cook Book (Annapolis, 1963) by Mrs. Robert S. Burwell, West River, Anne Arundel County.

So folks it's official, ROOTED will be making it's debut at Annebeth's on Maryland Ave this Thursday the 11th! Now you can get your hummus and dressing fix seven days a week. How cool is that?!
What a crazy ride it's been these last few months. From selling products out of my home away from home, Heroes Pub, to having my own little piece of real estate on the shelves of a local retailer. I can't thank this community of loyal customers, friends and family enough. If you would have told me 6 months ago I would be pursuing this venture I wouldn't have believed you for a second. Hell, if you know my gypsy a**, I may not have even still lived in this state 😆.
Even in all the excitement I'm overcoming a lot of obstacles not only from a business aspect but also on a personal level. I'm finding that building something with such sentimental value really holds a mirror to you and to those around you. There is so much I need to work on as a person and as a business owner but with such a loyal following, I/WE can accomplish anything!
There are definitely some key players that have propelled me forward on this journey (you know who you are) but from the bottom of my heart I want to thank the collective. I LOVE YOU ALL❤️
So make sure to stop by Annebeth's and support not one but TWO local small businesses! Huge THANK YOU to Annabeth for believing in our company in its baby stage and carrying some of our goods☺️.
