Tuesday Tips: Winter Watering
Most of California’s trees depend on moisture in the winter to help recover from the stresses of summer. When winters are dry, they have less ability to recover from the previous year’s stress and build reserves for the next one.
When winters start or become drier than normal, watering trees in the winter is actually a good thing. As the weeks progress with great temperatures and sunny or cloudy weather, but little or no rainfall, it is increasingly important to apply a deep, soaking supplemental watering. The good news is, doing this once now and once or twice more – depending on the rainfall cycle in your area – is more than enough to help your trees thrive during the summer.
