To all our clients:
In these interesting times, out of an abundance of caution, we are making some temporary changes to the way we do business.
Effective immediately, we are limiting visits to one person with each pet. If you are feeling ill, or have been exposed to coronavirus, we ask that you please reschedule your appointment.
Only one person is allowed in the building at a time. If you arrive and see someone in the waiting room, please wait outside until that person has left.
Masks are mandatory.
Emergency services are currently available at the following locations, but things can change very rapidly. We advise calling first. Non-emergency cases will not be seen.
Animal Emergency and Referral Center, Oakdale. 651-501-3766 (St. Paul location is CLOSED.)
University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center, St. Paul 612-626-8387
Como Park After Hours, St. Paul 651-487-3255
Please bear with us. We will continue to do our utmost to help you and your pets!

Ok, Covid 19. Blackhawk helicopters. Weapons firing, smoke and tear gas in the air. And now severe weather. How are YOUR pets doing?
Quick recommendations that may help tonight!
If your pet has a place he likes to hide, make sure it is free! This is Tug's safe place -- he chose it, I do not put him there.
Wherever he is, I leave the light on so the lightening is less obvious. I turn the fan on to help drown out any thunder, sirens, helicopter noises. Calming music is another great option (Through a Dog's Ear channel on Spotify). If your pet will eat, give him something super yummy to think about.... e.g. peanut butter finger painted on a cutting board or dog bowl. Right now, I have the treat jar next to m chair. With each lighting or thunder clap, a few treats get scattered on the floor. (Note: if your dog is really scared, she may not be able to eat -- don't force it!)
If your pet is just more anxious in general because of everything going on in our world, it can help to increase the number of rewarded, cue-response interactions you engage in per day so their environment is predictable and good! In plain speak -- Do more tricks! And reward with food! Anything your dog knows how to do, make a game of asking for it, and rewarding! Less petting (stressed dogs may not want it) and more food. Set aside 30+ treats per day, and use them up randomly throughout the day.
Let us know how your pets are doing!

It is crucial for puppies that are 8-14 weeks of age to have socialization experiences to help shape them into well-rounded, confident dogs. A tip to socialize your #puppy during the #COVID19 pandemic is to sit with your puppy outside and watch neighbors walk by. You can also wear different hats, sunglasses or odd clothing around the house at different times. These two activities simulate for your puppy interaction with a “stranger.” To see our entire list of 10 tips to socialize your dog while practicing #socialdistancing, check out our handout at https://z.umn.edu/puppy_socializing_COVID19
Hercules played a significant role in my veterinary education. My heart is broken. Safe travels, Herc. 💔

It is a somber new year for us, as we must announce the passing of our friend, Hercules. We were so lucky to have as much time with him as we did. He was such a special soul, candid mascot, and great role model. He taught so many, and saved so many more. Hercules was nothing less than a hero. Rest easy, big fella ❤️
It has come to our attention that there is a rumor circulating that we do not see pit bulls at our practice. THIS IS NOT TRUE!!! We see all breeds of dogs and cats. All are welcome here!
