The final South Willamette Street upgrades start construction July 13th! We are so excited to see the street improvements made permanent and for South Willamette to get wider sidewalks, a permanent center turn lane, and permanent bike lanes! The new pavement will be wonderful to bike on too. #streetimprovements MAILCHI.MP South Willamette Street Improvement Plan City of Eugene Transportation June 30 at 12:40 AM · Investments on South Willamette Street to improve function, safety, and pavement condition have been anticipated following the 2016 Pilot Study that added a center turn lane and bike lanes. The wait is over, with construction of the permanent street design scheduled to begin mid-July 2020! While the 2016 Pilot Study updated the street configuration, the construction of the permanent project will make it even more comfortable for our community to safely walk, bike, bus, and drive in the South Willamette shopping district from 24th Avenue to 32nd Avenue. In addition to keeping the center turn lane and bike lanes striped in the pilot, the project will include: -Street repaving and restriping to fix pavement condition -Reconstructed, accessible driveways and corner curb ramps to improve business access -Over 2000 feet of widened sidewalks to enhance the walking experience -Pedestrian-scale lighting to increase visibility for all street users -Pedestrian countdown timers at intersections to make crossing safer -New traffic signal at 27th Ave. to make turning from Willamette Street safer -47 trees planted throughout the corridor to make the shopping district more inviting -New rain gardens to clean water runoff from city streets -New conduit for communications (for future high-speed fiber) to support connectivity throughout the corridor Read more about the project, business access, construction timeline, and travel impacts here: bit.ly/SouthWillametteStreet

Thanks City of Eugene Transportation for highlighting what Arriving By Bike™ is doing to support our community! We are working hard to keep our customers safe and mobile throughout this crisis. Please make a visit if you are in need of a new bicycle or a repair. City of Eugene Transportation April 23 at 7:00 PM · We are excited to highlight the work our local bike shops are doing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the next few days we'll share a bit from each local bike shop. Here's our fourth piece on Arriving By Bike™, located on Willamette St. at W 27th Ave. In the past few weeks Arriving by Bike has seen a sometimes slower flow of customers and at the same time a steady, spaced demand for bicycle service and for accessories that make urban biking easier and more practical. Currently weekday evening closing time is one hour earlier at 6 pm and other hours remain the same (11am to 6pm Monday - Friday; 10am to 6pm Saturday; 12pm to 5pm Sunday). The staff at Arriving By Bike are glad that they are able to serve Eugene’s bicyclists and that bicycle service is considered an essential service for transportation purposes by the State of Oregon. In order to maximize safety for customers and staff, the doors now remain open to avoid touching of the handles. In addition, touching of inventory is limited and proper social distancing is observed. Every bicycle that is brought in for service is cleaned and sanitized before work is begun. This adds to wait times for drop-in customers, so Arriving By Bike is taking contact information to let people know when they should return for their bike. Recently, customers have focused on sturdy, all-purpose bikes with an emphasis on children’s sizes and continued interest in electric bikes. This may be due to Governor Brown’s order, which specifically allows running and biking (if done with careful social distancing practices). The shop has even seen doctors and food service workers who are seeking repairs so they can continue to bike to work. This local bike shop is working hard to keep their customers safe and mobile throughout this crisis. Please make a visit if you are in need of a new bicycle or a repair!
