Dr. Shazia Amar is not just a foot doctor, NYC podiatrist Dr. Amar is a people person whose primary goal is to help patients get better. Upon meeting Dr. Amar, you are struck by her delightful personality. Well liked by patients and colleagues, she is a great listener. Her down to earth, warm and friendly attitude combined with a compassionate concern for her patient’s welfare quickly puts them at ease. Dr. Shazia Amar’s patients feel heard, safe and comfortable and are likely to discuss all kinds of things with her, not just their foot problems.
Despite her busy schedule, Dr. Shazia Amar makes each individual feel as if they are her only patient, even though they clearly are not. She’s a hard worker, but always makes herself available and prides herself in returning phone calls as soon as possible. A dedicated foot doctor, NYC ‘s Dr. Amar is very hands on, has an excellent bedside manner, and is known for taking special care of surgical patients to make sure that they are comfortable both before and after surgery.
Dr. Amar began her medical career doing research for a pathologist. A biochemistry and chemistry major in college, she considered becoming a pediatrician before she discovered podiatry and decided to become a foot doctor. NYC seemed the logical place to study and start her practice.
Shazia Amar was motivated to become a foot doctor in NYC when her grandmother visited became ill and was taken to the hospital. Her grandmother didn’t speak any English, and was understandably anxious about being sick so far from home. Dr. Amar was struck by the physician’s warmth and compassion, and his ability to quickly alleviate her grandmother’s concerns, despite the fact that they didn’t speak the same language.
Dr. Shazia Amar believes that being a doctor is not just about medical expertise because compassion and understanding are an integral part of the healing process.
When not taking care of patients, Dr. Amar enjoys cooking, traveling, jogging and working out at the gym. An avid movie buff, she loves action flicks and thrillers. She is looking forward to returning to her cardio-boxing class as time permits.
