Bethesda Makeover Continues - First Impressions Make All The Difference
When we last checked in on this Bethesda makeover several weeks ago you may recall that the homeowner has hired us to reinvent the front entryway area of the home to give its curb appeal a huge boost, enlarge and restore the driveway and crumbling brick privacy wall that frames it, as well as reimagine the rear entryway they use when arriving home each night ... and that's just what's above the surface. The property also struggles with water run-off that destroys the landscaping. We've been all over this project since our last update so let's peek in on the latest:
Grandma Is Moving In And These Clients Are Going To Need More Room - Fast!
One of the charms of many homes in areas like Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Washington, D.C. is the history and character contained in their walls. One of the drawbacks, of course, is that these same homes often also carry the legacy of a time in our history when families lived and worked very differently with fewer bathrooms, single-car garages, and less space.
One of our latest projects is a great example of this. It would seem very foreign in today's market, but it was not uncommon for many older homes in this area to be built without a bathroom of any kind on the first floor. That's a big problem for these clients because grandma is coming to live with them soon - not only are they going to need more room, they're going to need a fully accessible bath easy for her to use on the first floor.

From Drab To Dramatic - The Anatomy of a True Home Remodeling Makeover
We featured some photos of this makeover in a recent post and have received quite a few requests for more information.
The project was a makeover for a 1950's brick rambler that was really cramping the owner's style. There were two giant pain points on their list. The first was that the entryway just did not feel inviting and felt small, and two was the interior, which true to the period in which it was built, was very compartmentalize and stuffy.
In short, it felt cramped and out-of-touch with their desire to relax and entertain friends in a free-flowing environment.
Not to worry, that's right where we come in. In fact, as a design-build firm, reimagining spaces is exactly what we do.
