DID YOU KNOW?
HERS - (Home Energy Rating Sytems) State of California Low Implemented July 1st 2014
Duct testing of a system is required when replacing the equipment. If your system is not ready to be changed out, you can also do a duct test to verify that all your ducts are sealed and the system is running at its optimum efficiency. This is done by a third party, and it is not affiliated with ASCO Service Inc. ASCO will set up the HERS Rater for you., and meet them on site. We will check air loss and loss of energy from your system. On an existing ductwork system, you are allowed up to 15% leakage. If the HERS Rater finds the duct air leakage is more than 15%, minor repairs can be done on-site with the duct testing company. if major repairs or replacement of ductwork is required, ASCO will give you a quote before proceeding. Duct repairs are billed separately from the duct test.
As per the HERS Duct Tester, they say usually most of the leakage in the system where is the boost come up through the floor or attic to the register. They are usually sheet metal and not sealed to the framing. ASCO will check your register boots and tape them off, if they are not sealed, prior to the duct test.

Make sure you leave the maintenance and repairs of your cooling system to an air-conditioning contractor. A contractor deals with cooling systems for a living and likely has already encountered any problem that arises in your home.
