John H. Chung founded Associated Builders as a sole proprietorship in 1981, and by 1997 his venture had grown into a California corporation. Today, John employs an experienced crew dedicated to excellence in general engineering, building, roofing, waterproofing, and construction industries. In the 1980s, Associated Builders worked mainly on remodeling and new construction projects for single-family dwellings and commercial properties. The young company soon expanded its services to the Bay Area s public sector, taking on projects for the National Park Service, the State Architect s Office, and the Unified School District, which included various remodeling and roofing jobs. The company also built its own office building a three-story tilt-up concrete structure located on Third Street in San Francisco. In the early 1990s, the company moved on to earthquake reconstruction and commercial tenant-improvement jobs, which involved retrofitting semi-high-rise, unenforced masonry building s in the San Francisco metropolitan area. In the mid-1990s, Associated Builders undertook many Church projects, constructed several hillside custom homes after the Oakland hills fire, and worked on SBA-funded business-property construction jobs and shopping malls. By the late 90s the company was very active in Silicon Valley s high-tech-industry construction work, as well as in the creation of many multi-unit developments and upscale restaurants in Bay Area shopping centers.
