Upper school students in Mrs. Hochburger’s STEAM classes creatively configured obstacle courses and then programmed mini Sphero robots to move through them. We love how Spheros encourage inquiry, creativity, and collaboration through play.
Here comes Johnny Apple Seed! This week our preschool students learned through the theme of apples.
Our littlest Gladiators took turns cranking an apple peeler and participating in apple relay races to improve their gross motor skills. Additionally, they created "pom-pom" apple pies, used apples as stamps, and bobbed for apples for sensory play and fine motor practice. Finally, they went on a search to find Johnny's lost apples to practice color identification and charted their favorite flavors of apple for a math lesson.
Thank you to our creative preschool teachers for engaging and teaching our littlest learners through play.
Our 7th-grade students are building Cell Cities in Mrs. Ziegele's Science class. These cities compare a living plant cell or animal cell and its organelles to a city or school. The place they choose must use energy, produce substances, and manage waste.
Ms. Godwin’s 6th grade Global Leadership students have been learning about the local issues of hunger and homelessness in Atlanta (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #1 & 2). In class, they completed research through a choice board activity by reading articles and watching videos to gain background information. Later, they were guided to reflect and think about how they could take action within the community to reduce the number of people in poverty. Finally, they created a Service Learning Proposal and Presentation to share their idea to their classmates and the administration. After 4 presentations, students took a 60 second “brain break” by doing jumping jacks!
Thank you Atlanta Academy Parent Association for making us feel extra special this week! We have the best parents and students! 💙💛 #GladiatorStrong
Ms. Godwin and her 8th-grade Global Leadership class honored some special people in celebration of Grandparents' Day! Empathy and social connections are critical in these times, and our goal is to provide authentic opportunities for our students to experience these essential life-skills.

Our Gladiators are celebrating National Color Day tomorrow, 10/22. Dress up in all the colors you can wear, and let's all take the day to appreciate the natural colors of the world.
Welcome to Hogwarts! This month, our Kindergarten teachers adapted a beloved series to capture their students' imaginations and created a life-size experience of the Harry Potter book series. They transformed the hallways into an experiential and immersive experience so that all students who pass by will find joy and excitement. The Harry Potter books provide a treasure of opportunities for fostering skills for all levels of growing learners! Potion formulas for science activities, Quidditch for games and gross motor movement, flying lessons for balance, creative inventions for STEAM activities, and imaginative language for writing are sure to resonate strongly within the hearts of our Atlanta Academy students for a long time.
Meet Happy Harold, our Pirate, the “Little Scarecrow of Horrors, and our friend letting us know that “Everything will be OK.” We still have more spaces for scarecrows! There’s still time to sign up. Email skashdan@atlantaacademy.com if you are interested!
Students in Mrs. Hochburger’s and Mrs. Stokes’ Conceptual Design class - a combination of art and technology - designed and created custom pencils using our Glow Forge laser cutter. This student’s theme was baseball players!
