Please take a moment and help safe the Motorcoach industry. https://p2a.co/C7psGv4 P2A.CO House Action! Support CERTS Act HR. 7642
As other industries have begun to rebound, the motorcoach industry is still in a very bad situation. We have drivers that want to work, we have new vehicles ready to safely travel the road, but there are NO customers. Bus payments are $7,000 per month PER BUS, bus insurance is $26,000 per month for the fleet, employee health insurance is $18,000 per month, facility rents are $12,600 per month. Doesn't take a math wizard to know this equation won't work. Please take a moment and click the link and send a note to your Congressman. Please. https://p2a.co/C7psGv4 P2A.CO House Action! I wrote this quickly, off the cuff and sent to the New York Times and the Washington Post. Neither will publish. It was my attempt to capture the business owner's thoughts, feelings and concerns during the Pandemic. The Plight of the Small Business Owner in America It was supposed to be a record year for Atlantic Coast Charters. After years of early mornings, late nights, putting our houses up for collateral, Dad and I were going to make it! We took delivery of 7 new Prevost buses for $525,000 each, signed on the dotted line committing everything we own to pay these notes. Our employees were excited, after all, who doesn’t love a new ride! Then the pandemic hit. I could feel it in my heart as early as the end of February. Trouble was on the horizon. On March 13th, life as we know it changed. Mass cancelations, concern over being infected, fear of the unknown. Was this the end of our way of life? Were my employees going to be able to pay their rent, buy their family food, would they be safe? A small business owner doesn’t just worry about their family, they consider their employees (we call ours the A Team!) and their loved ones as family. Now imagine the pressure and stress on business owners. Will their company survive, will their family survive, will their team members survive? Surely everything will be ok in a few weeks, right? Maybe a month at the worst. Time ticked along, maybe the bus industry will be able to open back up in Summer. Spring continued, nothing changed. Maybe the bus industry will recover in Fall. Fall is here and guess what, no recovery. In fact, things are worse. The very helpful PPP money has been spent, no charter revenue is coming in and now transit agencies are cutting contracts with private operators. This very much feels like doomsday. The industry has united and worked tirelessly to get 226 Members of the House and 56 Senators to co-sponsor the CERTS Bill to aid the bus, motorcoach and US based maritime industry. On Monday we learned the new HEROES Act does not include help for our industry. However, it does include help for transit, airlines, Amtrak, entertainment venues and restaurants. As the pressure of dealing with the economic fall out of the pandemic wasn’t enough for medication and therapy…seriously. Now I am dealing with feelings of anger, frustration and hopelessness. I wish Members of Congress understood the plight of the Small Business owner in America. They would have spent the last 6 months acting instead of playing politics. Listen up politicians; American business owners and citizens don’t give a damn whom is to blame, what party says this or that, we want you to take action. Do your damn job! I hope there is a way out of this. I hope the 76 families my business feeds have a place to work. I hope my kids don’t lose their home. Congress please help. Ronald Dillon, Jr President/Owner Atlantic Coast Charters Linthicum/Hagerstown, Maryland
Hi everyone, We believe a deal might be done within the next 24 hours based on sources on Capitol Hill. Please have EVERYONE call the White House and read the below script. Thank you. Please call the White House Please call the comments line and if that is busy then call the switchboard number and say you want to leave a message for President Trump. Comments: 202-456-1111/ Switchboard: 202-456-1414 When you call, you might have to wait 5-7 minutes for a person to speak with you. Please be polite and remember the person taking the comment is a volunteer and they are only taking the message. Script for your phone call comment "The critical motorcoach industry is dying and we need President Trump to save us! The CERTS Act that has the majority of Congress supporting it was left out of Speaker Pelosi’s relief package. We need strong leadership and ask the President to stand up for the motorcoach industry that must not be overlooked again in the next relief package Thank you"
A HUGE thank you to Senator Paul Corderman. He is helping us fight for survival as the MTA cuts routes. We just spent over $3.5 million on new buses for MTA Commuter service in February. Senator Paul Corderman Yesterday at 12:19 PM · I was proud to sign onto this bipartisan letter, which was sent to Governor Larry Hogan's office last week. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unforeseen challenges to many small businesses, including commuter bus services. Here locally, Atlantic Coast Charters offers routes from Hagerstown to Myersville, Shady Grove, Rock Spring, etc. They employ our friends and family members in the community. The MD Department of Transportation has proposed significant reductions to commuter bus schedules beginning November 2, 2020. This letter expresses our concern for such cuts and requests that private bus carriers have a pathway to survive this pandemic!
