To the Mothers of our Angel Babies... Donna Adams-Pickett October 2 at 1:58 AM · This greeted me as I walked out of the hospital Tuesday and today, I delivered a Rainbow baby. We call a healthy baby born to a family after they suffered a loss of a previous pregnancy a “Rainbow Baby” The rainbow. A symbol of hope, happiness and new beginnings after a torrential storm of pain and a tsunami of loss and sadness. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. I thank the Legend and Tiegen family for sharing their story. I know my words ring hollow and bring no comfort to those families who find themselves in the same situation. I hold their hands. I plead with them to hear me when I say “It was out of your hands. There is NOTHING you could have done differently” The truth of that brings no relief. But maybe them sharing their story will help another family find some solace that they are not alone and this painful kinship does not discriminate based on money, status or standing. My Rainbow baby today let out a beautiful scream. His Mommy teared up, but then she CRIED. I knew as the tears escaped my own eyes that her final sobs were the rain for her angel baby that allowed this rainbow to shine. Sending Love and Hugs to All those Mommies for whom October has an extra special significance.
Dearest AWHWC family. As you know, I have dedicated my life to ensuring the health and well being mothers and babies. In January, I was asked to participate in a brief docu-episode by Vice Media that focused on the issue of Maternal Mortality in the U.S.. If you have 20 minutes, please take a moment to view the clip below and amplify the message that we as a country NEED to invest in our pregnant mothers and babies.
