About Dr. Fuad Makkouk
Fuad Makkouk, MD, is an ophthalmologist in Austin, Texas. He is fellowship trained in retinal surgery from Yale University. Dr. Makkouk and the team at Austin Eye Center provide cutting-edge ophthalmologic care in a patient-centered, boutique setting.
Using the most innovative techniques in cataract and retinal surgery, including laser treatments and intravitreal injections, Dr. Makkouk provides individualized treatment for patients ages 12 and older. His special interests span a wide range of ophthalmologic problems, including macular degeneration, retinal detachment, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Makkouk’s path to ophthalmology began right in Austin, when he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with high honors and a degree in biochemistry. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, before finishing an internship at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Dr. Makkouk completed his residency at UTMB, where he was named ophthalmology chief resident. He then returned to Yale University as a vitreoretinal surgery fellow and clinical instructor.
As leader in his field, Dr. Makkouk is committed to medical excellence and community service. His many accomplishments include being a Clinical Instructor at Yale University, and receiving awards for citizenship and leadership from UTMB. Dr. Makkouk has published numerous research papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented at various conferences across the United States.
