Music is important at any age. Anyone who plays an instrument can speak the praises and tell you of the joy that is playing music. Learning the ins and outs of an instrument can lead to a fulfilling hobby or profession, but not everyone knows where to go or how to learn. Thankfully, professional music instructor Dr. Kathleen Bondurant wants to share her knowledge with the people of Austin.
Dr. Kathleen Bondurant, the youngest woman to receive a Ph.D from the School of Arts and Sciences, earned her master’s degree and a Ph.D in flute from New York University. She has been a university professor at various universities and colleges in the United States and abroad, where she has been teaching flute, piano, music history as well as music theory. She has studied under some of the best instrumentalists representing their fields, such as renowned jazz pianist Ray Santisi, International performer and accompanist Phillip Moll, and some of the world’s most famous flautists including Jean-Pierre Rampal, Julius Baker, and Sir James Galway. As a result, Dr. Bondurant herself has also gained the honor of being known as one of the best flute teachers in the country.
Not only has she been teaching music since 1974, but she is also a professional performer who has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. With years of teaching and a large community service record--including being the music director for the department of parks and recreation in Wallingford, CT--Dr. Bondurant has made herself known, and has proven time and time again her skills and love for music, the instruments she teaches, and more importantly, the people who play them.
Dr. Kathleen Bondurant offers piano, guitar, flute and vocal lessons and a flexible schedule that centers around you. You can choose to take lessons in her home, your home, or even online through webcam! With over 35 years of experience, Dr. Bondurant will teach anyone at any age and at any level, whether you are beginner learning to play your instrument for the very first time, or a seasoned player who needs to brush up on your technique or improve on your skills. Dr. Bondurant is one of the best, applying the various teaching methods of some of the greats she has studied under along with her own to make an individually-tailored course that’s right for the student. Her courses allow her students to leave confidently after their time with her, knowing how to pick up a piece of music and play it well--and more importantly, enjoy playing it.
