Know the Stages for the proper Child Passenger Safety Seat
As children grow, the model of car seat changes to keep up with their age and their size.
1. From birth to about age 3, use a rear-facing car seat.
2. After outgrowing the rear-facing car seat, use a forward-facing car seat until about age 5.
3. Once children outgrow their forward-facing seat, they should be buckled in a belt-positioning booster seat until seat belts fit properly.
4. Once seat belts fit properly without a booster seat, use a seat belt on every trip. Seat belts fit properly when the lap belt lays across the upper thighs (not the stomach) and the shoulder belt lays across the chest (not the neck).

LATCH System: Most vehicles and car seats made after 2002 have the LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) The LATCH system uses connectors built into the vehicle corresponding straps from the car seat to properly anchor the seat into the vehicle. This system was developed to help make it easier to properly install your car seat without needing to use the seat belts. However, safety seats properly installed using seat belts are safe as well. The weight limit on the LATCH system is 65 lbs, which includes the weight of the child and the car seat combined.

The Fall is upon us and October is Fall Car Care Month. A great time to check over all of the major systems of your vehicle including the brakes. If you are hearing any grinding or squealing you definitely want to have the brakes checked out. Another clue that there might be an issue is if you feel any pulsation, vibrating or the steering wheel is shaking while braking.
