Then and now. Continuing our discussion on how cars have changed, today we are going to discuss tires. Older cars; if the tire looked low, it was probably low. Newer cars, with the increased use of low profile tires and run-flat tires, its almost impossible to tell the tire pressure by looking anymore. A run-flat tire could be completely flat and not look much different than an inflated tire. This is one of the reasons newer cars use a TPM or Tire Pressure Monitoring System. While this a great feature it doesn't mean you don't have to check your tire pressures. Check out our YouTube video for more information. Continuing our series on cars, then vs now. Today's topic is oil changes. This is a topic that everyone will have an option about! Then; every 3k miles and could be easily done at home. Now; engines are more efficient, oil is better and most cars use full synthetic oil. Oil change intervals can be as high 15k miles and most cars give you a "countdown" based on how you drive. Most manufactures also recommend changing the oil annually if you don't hit the targetted mileage. Changing your oil sooner never hurts, but 3k miles is a little excessive unless you are tracking your car. Then and now. Continuing our discussion on how cars have changed, today we are going to discuss wiper blades. Older cars; you could purchase wiper inserts, usually 16" to 18" and just slide them in the existing wiper arm for less than $20 Newer cars; especially on European cars the wipers are all one piece and are either a beam-type or hybrid, the left, and right side may be different sizes or they use a manufacture specific clamp to secure them to the arm. Changing wipers today can cost as much as $100 for a set, it is a huge safety issue, and not replacing them could damage an expensive windshield. Cars, then vs. now. Cars, like all technology has advanced over the last 10 years. Most of the this change is due to safety, emissions or just improving the driving experience. Over the next few weeks we are going to compare what has changed over the years and what you can do to get the most out of your car. Today topic is cabin air filters or micro filters; Older cars, what filter??? Newer cars, there is a filter usually located above the glove box, under the windshield cowl or sometimes under the hood. These filters are like your home AC filters and need to be changed periodically. Depending on how much you drive and driving conditions determine how often they should be changed. Go to our website to read more on this topic. https://hubs.la/H0wLZ8g0 AUTOSCOPECARCARE.COM What Does Your BMW’s Cabin Filter Do? - European Car Repair in Dallas & Plano | European Auto Shop - Autoscope

Continuing our series on cars now vs. then. Today's topic is engine fluids. Then; You had a dipstick to check the oil, want to look at the radiator fluid. just pop the radiator cap and look inside the radiator. Now; Most cars don't even have a dipstick, it's done with sensors. Coolant low? most radiators you can't even open the cap, they are sealed and you check and top off the fluid in an expansion tank usually mounted away from the radiator. Most other fluids are "lifetime" fluids that seldom require service and are topped during routine services.
Is washing your motor bad??? On older cars you could literally "hose down" the engine bay. Keeping the engine clean is always a good idea, but with new cars and the amount of sensors and wiring harnesses, extreme care must be taken to insure nothing is damaged.

The fall colors are beautiful until they land on your car! The area between the hood and windshield of your car can collect leaves, and like the gutters of your house can get clogged. The leaves can keep water from draining properly and overflow into engine electronics, or even into the cabin of your car. It can also cause an air flow restriction to the fresh air intakes for the climate control system.
