WE RE-OPEN OCT 27. we are very excited to officially announce that we will re-open in our brand new home located at 4501 Chouteau Avenue, on October 27 for our SOFT RE-OPENING!
doors open at 8 am so come through and check out the new Golden Grocer. we’ll still have some things to set up and receive—including our amazing new signage going up on the building facade, so bear with us during this period.

We asked for your help choosing a name for our southern rockhopper penguin chick from the four potential names selected by our bird keepers.
The results are in and the name is...Opal!
Out of 36,620 votes cast, Opal received 16,806 of them, or 45.89 percent. Runner-up was Pebbles (9,301 votes), followed by Luna (5,847 votes) and Lumi (4,666 votes).
You can read all about Opal’s remarkable hatch story, which involves the penguin chick's biological parents and foster parents, at stlzoo.org/rockhopperchick.
Soon the chick will be reintroduced to her rockhopper family and other penguins in their public habitat at Penguin & Puffin Coast.
