With Labor Day approaching, we wanted to remind you that many Labor Day festivities and foods can be harmful to our pets. Keep your pets happy, healthy, and safe this holiday weekend by following these tips: ✔️Protect Your Plate: Many foods we enjoy on Labor Day such as onions, corn cobs, chocolate, grapes, and alcohol can be toxic to pets or pose a choking hazard. ✔️ Beat The Heat: Dogs are susceptible to heat stroke. Make sure there is plenty of water and shade for our canine friends to keep cool. ✔️ Guard The Grill: Keep pets away from the grill, grill tools, lighter fluid, and matches in order to avoid burns and hazardous chemical ingestion. ✔️ Forgo The Fireworks: Not only can fireworks frighten pets, they can cause severe burns. Keep your pets calm and safe in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area. If your pet should experience an emergency over the holiday weekend, remember that Avets is open 24/7 for emergencies: 412-373-4200.

Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County, we have added some additional safety measures at Avets. ☑️ If you have an emergency, please continue to call the hospital when you arrive, and a staff member will meet you in the parking lot: 412-373-4200. ☑️ To minimize person-to-person contact and contact with the inside of your vehicle, we ask that you hand-off your pet to our employee in a designated meeting spot. A team member will call to notify you when we are coming outside to bring your pet into the hospital, so that you can be ready outside of your vehicle with your pet, at our designated meeting spot. ☑️ ALL Avets team members and ALL visitors on the premises are required to wear masks completely covering their nose and mouth. This is required even in our parking lot, as our team will need to be in close contact with you while they are bringing your pet into the hospital. For a full list of our Covid-19 protocols, please visit: avets.com/covid-19.

You may be wondering, what is all of that plywood for? 👀 Here, you'll see the wood shell that frames out the room where our brand new 1.5 Tesla MRI will be located! There are extensive site planning and preparations that must be completed in order to install this powerful imaging machine. These photos show the very beginning steps, and there will be many more to come! What is an MRI? MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio-wave energy to create pictures of your pet. MRI works differently than CT and ultrasound and is often able to give us information that can’t be obtained with other types of imaging.
