These words... RaShawn Johnson September 16 at 6:26 AM · Let me break something down for yall then imma take my mental break from social media for awhile. I see/seen a lot of people saying “White Privilege” isn’t a real thing and thinking it has to do with money. And claiming cops around the world are being oppressed and hated on for no reason and it isn’t fair to them.. Imagine being in highschool liking a girl a lot and she asks you to prom, only to find out weeks later she can’t go with you now because her father didn’t want her going with a black guy. Imagine knowing alot of her family ur whole life and played football with her brother, always cheered for u and seemed nice. Imagine having to meet ur white grandfather when ur almost 6-7 and having to show him that ur a normal child too just like any other white kid cause it took him longer to accept his daughter has a mixed family. (Better late than never) Imagine literally having to carry rocks in ur pockets to throw at cars shouting racial slurs at u just for taking a walk in a predominantly white area. Imagine ALWAYS having to check who’s the owner of the house that’s throwin a party that weekend and where it’s at to make sure it’s not literally known klan member territory. Imagine the endless “oh u have a dad” jokes, “I’m surprised he didn’t walk out on u” Imagine when slavery’s brought up in the classroom and u get anxiety cause all the white students look at u to see ur reaction. Imagine gettin pulled over with another black friend for not wearing seatbelts, then one cop car turns into three cars behind you. Imagine being in the backseat gettin pulled over, ur the only black kid in a full car and suddenly the officer “smells weed” (in funky ass western port of all places). Imagine having a “friend” u played sports with ur whole life and ur moms were good friends until one night he calls u from a random number and just says “nigger” the whole time cause he was bored and thought it was funny, y’all meet up n fist fight after then never speak to each other again. Imagine playing in an away highschool basketball game and u hear a grown ass man call u a “nigger” from the stands. Imagine all the unesseasary stares and uneasiness of some ignorant people cause ur black AND have tattoos. Imagine just being a KID playing Call of duty with ur friends but almost every time u say something in a lobby and someone random realizes ur black, hella racial slurs get said from kids and adults. Yes these are 100% true and shit I’ve been thru , n I didn’t post this because I want any attention or want anyone to feel sorry for me, just maybe more people can become more understanding . I LOVE being a black man and I love myself. I’m glad my eyes got opened to this type of stuff young and I know people that have been thru WAYyy worse than me. I just wanted to share SOME personal stories of what it’s like to be a black man and why I say I can’t sympathize with a job profession gettin hated on. Once again White privilege is a real thing that has nothing to do with money or where u grew up and cops can take their uniform off to take a break from the hate they receive, black people can’t . Period

Stop by and see me. I'll be at the shop on Thursday from 11 AM until 5 PM. Great deals on ALL rugs, and a great time to drop off your rugs for cleaning and/or repair work. Our first transport of rugs to Dr. Azad will happen next week - so this is a perfect time to get your beginning of the year cleaning completed. Remember: It is recommended to move your hand made rugs outside once a year on a bright and sunny day on a clean surface like a driveway or deck. Allow the rug to sit in the sunshine for a few hours on each side. This will help air out your rug and kill germs and dust mites. BUT, all hand made rugs should be professionally cleaned every 3-5 years. Our cleaning and repair work is personally supervised by Dr. Reza Azad himself and uses only natural and hand cleaning methods used by his family for over 5 generations. Call or text Dave when you are on your way, 301.723.0818, and drop your rug(s) off at our backdoor located on Butler Alley. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
