Baan Thai, formerly Tumrubthai, opened its doors in Waltham in 2001. Owner, Chalee Kioechui has made it a priority to serve authentic, fresh, fine quality Thai food in a relaxed, inviting environment. Upon his arrival in the Boston area in 1999, Chalee noticed large numbers of Indonesian students who yearned for good Thai food. Prior to opening Baan Thai, Chalee managed several restaurants in the Boston area, including Thai Basil on Newbury Street in Boston. At Baan Thai, Chalee manages to satisfy the tastes of serious Thai enthusiasts as well as people who are trying Thai food for the first time. The newcomer can feel confident with their meal knowing that Chalee will describe each dish while paying special attention to the likes/dislikes of the customer. He has taught many people that good food can taste hot without overpowering its flavor with spices. The goal at Baan Thai is to provide delicious, genuine Thai food in a warm, welcoming environment. Diners can rest assured that they will receive the utmost attention required to make their meal enjoyable and, most importantly, memorable.
